On 15 February 2013, the Veterans Club had its first meeting of the year. This was also the first meeting since the passing of the Veterans Club President, Brian Thomas, a stalwart of the TWU and the man who this regular column is dedicated to.
TWU Veterans Peter Cooley and Steve Whittick have been elected President and Vice-President of the Veterans Club respectively. We are also pleased to report that Brians widow, Judy Thomas, has been elected the Veterans Club Womens representative.
The Veterans Club is open to all TWU members who have retired from the transport industry. The Veterans Club plays a vital role in TWU campaigning and has taken the lead in the TWUs retail campaign against Coles. Its members were also instrumental in the labour movements campaign against the Howard Governments WorkChoices legislation. This included a march through the city that received widespread support and media coverage.
