Bus drivers at Transit Systems are not shocked at the lack of response to their stop work meeting on Monday this week. Drivers understand how the company operates, having been subjected to over three-and-a-half years of Transit Systems management ignoring their concerns.
Richard Olsen, Secretary of the Transport Workers Union of NSW said “Transit Systems needs to start hearing driver concerns. For over two years the company has been holding back money from drivers’ pay packets that has been provided by NSW Taxpayers for wage increases.”
“Our members are seeking that Transit Systems re-negotiate the industry agreement and ensure that drivers are paid on a par with the rest of the industry.”
“The most disappointing issue here for drivers is the lack of responsibility on their behalf by the NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance. It appears the Minister chooses to remain silent rather than ensure Transit Systems takes their responsibilities seriously,” Richard Olsen said.
The Transport Workers’ Union of NSW is announcing further action that will impact passengers who use Transit Systems Buses.
- Tuesday, 7 March 2017, Transit Systems drivers will be taking buses off the road for two stop work meetings between 7am to 9am and 2pm to 4pm.
- Drivers are also not turning on ticket machines From Tuesday
- Drivers will also not be wearing Transit System uniform as part of their ongoing protest.
- The Transport Workers’ Union of NSW is advising school authorities of the stop work meetings.
Richard Olsen, said, “This is in the hands of Transit Systems, if they choose to do nothing to prevent this action then Minister Andrew Constance needs to step in and take control to ensure drivers concerns are properly dealt with. We are aware these stop work actions will cause some inconvenience but members feel that the lack of action and respect from Transit Systems Management leaves them no choice. These drivers who are vital to the communities serviced by Transit Systems. We also thank the many passengers who gave the drivers their support on Monday this week.”
