Let Others Watch The World Go By: We’re Busy Making History
We are a week out from our Safe Rates Convoy to Canberra on Sunday, June 20. It’s our biggest event of 2010. What are we fighting for? In late 2008, the Federal Government released the independent Quinlan Report, which found a direct link between rates of pay and road safety in the transport industry. Since then, hundreds of people have died in heavy-vehicle accidents.
There is no excuse for inaction. We’re driving that point home to the pollies with a mass rally.
The TWU wants the government to legislate to establish an independent industrial body, in recognition of the hyper-competitive nature of the road transport economy. This body would ensure that:

award rates are not eaten away at by prevailing conditions in the industry
- SUBBIES’ rights under the NSW contract determination system are guaranteed in the new Federal system.

bring your family and friends (make sure the right number of people in your party is registered with us). Lunch is provided and there are activities for kids.

make banners and placards (where you’re from, who you represent, why you’re there)

trucks will marshal at the Federal Highway Service Road, Eaglehawk Neck, 11AM, and depart for Capital Hill at 11:30AM. Parking around the Hill will be directed by TWU marshals.

cars will meet trucks departing Eaglehawk Neck, 11:30AM, or make their own way to Capital Hill to arrive by noon. Parking will be along Federation Mall, as directed by TWU marshals.
- buses leave from the points selected by registrants, at 7AM. Return journeys start by 3PM.
