Your Rights as a TWU Delegate:

Your TWU membership delivers you with the benefits of belonging to one of Australia’s biggest unions and as a Delegate or Co-Delegate you have rights. Your employer must:

  • Recognise the importance of your delegates role
  • Allow your delegates to communicate with the workforce, other delegates and management.
  • Allow your Delegates the freedom to move around the workplace
  • Allow the opportunity for your delegates to have training and education
  • Give your delegates information
  • Provide your delegates with facilities and access to equipment such as telephone, photocopier, fax, noticeboard and other equipment.

Delegates Training:
TWU delegates receive professional Workplace and Occupational Health and Safety training to assist them work with members to Secure the Future.

Delegate’s Training Course Descriptions:

Delegate’s One
A one-course designed for new delegates, the course will outline your role and rights within the Union, how to sign up new members, how to use awards and enterprise agreements and how to handle issues with the boss.

Winning in the Workplace
The WITW two-day training course is suitable for Delegates and Activists wanting to increase the level of union membership and better organise their workplace. The course will help you develop a ‘plan of attack’ including establishing workplace committees, mapping the workplace, developing strategies and planning action.

Occupational Health and Safety Course
The one-day OH&S course gives a comprehensive update on the new OH&S Act. 2000. It explains workplace safety rules and regulations and how you and your members can apply them in your workplace.

Workers Compensation Update
This one-day course gives you a guide to the Workers’ Compensation system in NSW. What is workers compensation? Who is entitled to claim? What is the employers role? What are “return to work” plans? All these questions and more are answered.

Negotiation Skills
A one-day course to assist you in preparing for negotiations. The training will assist in getting what you and your members want out of negotiations and will give you tips on how to get management to follow through on commitments.

Union Summer / Winter / Spring
These programs, run over three weeks and are for delegate’s that have already done some training. These courses provide delegate’s with the opportunity to develop their skills and to gain more on-the-job experience as they take part in TWU organising campaigns in various industries.
