The car carrying industry has faced some of the toughest times out of
any industry in the current financial downturn. The TWU delegates and
organisers have been working hard with members to make sure they can
ride out the temporary financial crisis.
While not ideal, TWU has been negotiating with employers like Patricks and CEVA to try and ensure no owner-drivers are layed off but instead have the opportunity to apply other alternative work sharing arrangements.
The financial crisis is said to be on the mend and the industry should repair itself to conditions pre 2009. During this time the TWU will be fighting to ensure major car carrying companies reward loyal employees and contractors for the hardship they are enduring through the credit crunch. The TWU will be fighting for job permanency and fighting for reliable contracts and employment practises that allow for regular revenue for all employees and subcontractors.
